No sex on the planet of the apes

Because they feared the imposition of a 17 certificate, the producers of “The Planet of the Apes” decided to cut a cross-species love scene. Director Tim Burton had shot such a scene for the remake of the classic 60s film, but 20th Century Fox were not having it.

The source of the disagreement between director and studio bosses lies in a scene between astronaut Mark Wahlberg and the princess of the apes Helena Bonham Carter. Apparently, the romantic scene was already shot when the studio bosses heard about it. They feared that such a scene would lead to a 17 certificate – which would severely limit the chances of commercial success. And now it looks like the final cut will feature nothing more than a furtive kiss.
