The vibrant tweets of an imprisoned producer

In 1995, Quentin Tarantino and Roger Avary won the Oscar for best screenplay for «Pulp Fiction», a few months after having taken home the Golden Palm from Cannes. 14 years later, while Tarantino is busy being outraged at the criticism lobbed at «Inglourious Basterds» around the world, Avary languishes in Ventura County Jail, sentenced to one year for causing the death of a passenger in a car accident while driving drunk.

The Los Angeles Times, which was first to scoop the press, has not been able to confirm 100% that the handle @avary really belongs to the filmmaker, or if someone else is sending tweets in his name.

No matter who's doing the actually writing, it shows the world how scary Avary's prison life is, with stories of drugs, communicable diseases and unannounced body searches by the guards .

The producer seems to be posting his 140 characters through the web, often with a Mac iPhone application called Twitterrific. Or he may be phoning his messages in to a friend, who posts them on Twitter for him. Meanwhile, the American senate is considering a law that would make the use of cell phones in penitentiaries throughout the country illegal.
