Faced with a particularly harsh winter, the government publishes a decree obliging French citizens to offer better housing to fellow citizens who are in a precarious situation. A decision that plunges the residents of a chic Parisian building, separated by political views but united by their selfishness and hypocrisy, into panic, while everyone tries to confront the situation with more or less humanity...

A film that is timely: while France is being seduced by the far right and the migrant crisis blurs ideas beyond the usual divide between left and right, Le Grand Partage uses a clever comic principle supported by an ensemble cast that is huge if not imaginative: Karin Viard as a petite bourgeoise, Didier Bourdon as a loudmouth, Valerie Bonnetton plays hysterical, Josiane Balasko an austere concierge; with cameos by Michel Vuillermoz, Patrick Chesnais, Firmine Richard and even Anemone, this cast reflects the movie by Alexandra Leclere (Les Sœurs fâchées, Le Prix à payer, Maman), which is nothing more than situation comedy with heavy dialogues. It boils down to one hour and forty minutes of film that is neither sophisticated nor surprising and is weighed down by a self-righteousness that is often grotesque. The few good basic ideas are quickly forgotten as they are swallowed up within a big, forgettable comedy.
