The Return of the First Avenger
Following the destruction of New York, Steve Rogers helps S.H.I.E.L.D. hunt down the enemies of democracy.
Following the destruction of New York in The Avengers, Steve Rogers goes to Washington to help S.H.I.E.L.D. hunt down the enemies of democracy – under the orders of Nick Fury and with the help of Natasha Romanoff. But when a mysterious new threat called the Winter Soldier appears, Rogers realizes that S.H.I.E.L.D. is hiding some big secrets, and that the line between enemy and ally is even more complex than before. This is a job for Captain America.
Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 seemed to announced the end of a good run for Marvel studios, as both movies merely exploited their brands without bringing anything new to the franchise. But now there’s Captain America 2, which proves – like its original - that Steve Rogers is the most interesting superhero in Marvel’s stable. As classic as Captain America is, his second adventure offers up great thrills, with its best moments at an adrenalin level close to The Avengers. The wobbly directorial effort by the Russo brothers, which makes the action too illegible to do it justice, is saved by a very solid screenplay. Something to tide us over until Avengers 2 is released.
