Le crocodile du Botswanga

Movie Rating: Agathe Tissier

A paranoid African dictator sees a talented soccer player as the future star of his favorite team.

A young, talented soccer player, Leslie Konda is invited back to his home country to be decorated by the president. He knows nothing of Botswanga, all he wants is to be able to spread the ashes of his recently deceased mother in her village. But the president turns out to be a paranoid dictator who sees Leslie as the hope of the local team, the Crocodiles. He tries to buy off Didier, Leslie’s cheap agent who only cares about money and does all he can to make Leslie stay and become part of the team. Blinded by a charming young woman pretending to be virtuous, Leslie soon only has eyes for her and doesn’t see what’s going on behind his back.

Botswanga is a country full of snapping crocodiles, flagrant racism, nostalgia for French Algeria, African dictators and other caricatures. It remains to be seen whether this armada of stereotypes, which makes fun of anything that moves, will actually make anyone laugh.
