After his tour of duty in Iraq, a U.S. Marine looks for the woman who saved his life. Drama starring Zac Efron and Taylor Schilling.

U.S. Marine Sergeant Logan Thibault (Zac Efron) returns home unscathed from his third tour of duty in Iraq. He attributes his survival to a photo of a pretty, blonde woman he found in the desert. Back in the States, Logan tries to find his guardian angel, walking with his German shepherd from Colorado to Louisiana, where he finally meets Beth (Taylor Schilling). Without telling her about the picture, Logan starts working at the animal shelter run by Beth's grandmother (Blythe Danner). Despite resistance from her ex-husband (Jay Ferguson) and without knowing why he's there, Beth falls in love with in Logan.

Since The Notebook took in over $115 million worldwide in 2004, Hollywood has been trying to repeat its success. But no other Nicholas Sparks adaptation has succeeded and The Lucky One is no exception. Although flooded with breathtaking images of the Louisiana countryside, the weak plot and odd casting drags the film down. Taylor Schilling, an inexperienced TV actress, overplays every little emotion, while Zac Efron's U.S. Marine is too reserved and cold. Which raises the question of who The Lucky One is. Clearly not the audience.
