The war is mixed in the hearts of a couple made up of a Serbian policeman and a Muslim painter. Directed by Angelina Jolie.

In 1992, the war that will devastate a multiethnic population in Bosnia-Herzegovina does, destroys the emerging love between a young Serbian police officer and a Muslim painter. Catapulted to the head of an army, the policeman and son of a top general finds himself following in the footsteps of his father, who still feels the pain of another war waged 50 years earlier that leaves him with a taste for revenge against Muslims. Caught between his feeling for the young painter and his new duties, Danjiel (Goran Kostic) finds himself fighting on all fronts. He holds Ajla (Zana Marjanovic) prisoner to keep her safe from the vile actions of his men.

Angelina Jolie's directorial debut takes on a heavy subject and doesn't hold back. Resolutely denouncing the Bosnian genocide and the lack of response by the international community, she also makes a point of honor of making known her indignation at the sexual violence endured by women during the conflict, atrocities that have since been designated war crimes. A raw film, somewhat disserviced by the implausibility of its love story.
