Home for Christmas

Ensemble piece made up of 8 stories of a small town in Norway.

A woman about to give birth and her husband flee Kosovo and head for Sweden; a boy is in love with a Muslim girl in his class whose family doesn't celebrate Christmas; a poor vagabond and former football star wants to go home for Christmas; his old and infirm parents hope to see him again; his former girlfriend sells Christmas trees; a divorced father disguises himself as Santa to see his children again; an on-call doctor finds meaning in his life; a sex-obsessed man meets his wife and children at midnight mass after planning to spend Christmas with his mistress...

In Home for Christmas, Bent Hamer, the maker of the unusual and remarkable The Bothersome Man and O'Horten, successfully avoids the usual corny clichés of the holidays in favor of the fragile and tragicomic dimension that all humans are subject to.
