As they each arrive in Venice for the first time one evening in 1999, Silvestre and Camilla meet on a vaporetto. Pretending he has nowhere to sleep for the night, the boy invites himself to her place. Camilla is a history student specializing in Russian theater who lives in a small, unheated garret. Over the next 10 years, the two young people keep meeting one another between Moscow and Venice, as they move from dislike to friendship, indifference and, of course, love, but unfortunately without admitting it to one another...

A marvel of finesse, tact and sensitivity laced with a measure of romance, Dieci inverni is a movie about evolving from student to full adult. It is directed by Valerio Mieli, a 28-year-old film student from Rome's experimental cinematography center, who adapted his semi-autobiographic novel. Although portrayed as sad, deserted, grey and damp, Venice remains one of the world's most photogenic cities.
