Maxime and Mélanie are 15, enjoying first love and the sex that comes with it. Until Mélanie finds out she’s pregnant. At first shocked, Maxime accepts the idea of becoming a father and convinces Mélanie to keep the child and that they should raise it together. But her mother has other ideas, and the decision weighs heavily on the adolescents.

Guillaume Senez knows that his subject matter is risky because it is clichéd. He therefore stays right on target and forges ahead: from the first scene, he openly deals with the sexuality of his main characters and gets to the pregnancy by the second one. Closer to the Dardenne brothers than Juno starring Ellen Page, Keeper tries to sum up the experience of its leads realistically and sincerely, finding a balance between their naïveté and the harshness of the feelings resulting from the pregnancy. It offers good performances by Galatea Bellugi and Kacey Mottet Klein discovered in L’Enfant d’en haut with Léa Seydoux. Not a smash hit, Keeper is a small film that is a success despite a few false notes.
