A literature professor who regularly sleeps with his students is suspected of murder when one disappears.

Marc teaches literature to mainly female students at the modern architectural wonder that is the University of Lausanne. Many of them fall for his intellectual charm that hides behind his ever-present cloud of smoke. But his latest conquest has disappeared. He starts running into both a police inspector and the stepmother of the girl in the halls of the university, not to mention the enticing librarian and his own sister – with whom he lives in the chalet they inherited from their parents. His sister has incestuous tendencies and needs to accept that Marc will one day leave her for someone else. A witness to his nightly bouts of sleepwalking, she begins to have a hard time finding him innocent and worries about his repeated absences...

Adapted from the book Incidences by Philippe Djian, set in the cold and snowy surroundings of the University Lausanne, this film by the Larrieu brothers is a thriller that is more glacial in pace than it is chilling, in which caricaturistic characters all seem to be guilty of something. The cold ambiance is broken up by humorous moments that interfere with the thriller effect. What's left is a series of strange encounters among Hitchcockian characters (Karin Viard, Denis Podalydès, Sarah Forestier*) lost on a stage in a vaudeville play, with a surprising result.
