Despite begin acquitted after shooting a young thug, Billy Taggart (Mark Wahlberg) is forced to resign as a New York police officer. Seven years later, he works as a private detective for clients who have a hard time paying him. Contacted by the mayor of New York (Russell Crowe), who is in the midst of a campaign for a second term, Taggart is offered $50,000 to find out who is sleeping with the mayor’s wife (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and to take photos of the man. But Taggart soon figures out that there is more to the story than just an affair...

Classic urban thriller which certainly won't revolutionize the genre but still has enough suspense to keep the audience's attention until its end credits. The only original idea: a well-aimed stab at the hip world of independent film and its self-anointed artists.
