The daughter of a former torero shows an innate talent for bullfighting.

1920's Spain: the gloomy day of Carmencita's (Macarena Garcia) birth is also the day her mother dies and her father (Daniel Gimenez-Cacho), a renowned torero, falls paralyzed in the arena. The child is put into the care of her grandmother and when the old lady dies, Carmencita is taken to the father she has never known, where she is forbidden to enter his rooms by her cruel stepmother (Maribel Verdù). The years go by and when her father dies, her stepmother tries to get rid of Carmen, who is now a young woman. With no memory, she is taken in by a group of dwarf toreros who put on shows in small country arenas. Nicknamed Blanca Nieves, she soon shows her innate talent for bullfighting. Their show moves to Seville and people are soon asking who this woman is, as she goes up against the same beast who mutilated her father with its horns.

This Spanish Snow White is silent but layered with music, especially a sensational flamenco that turns the black and white onscreen images into characters deep with color. Director Pablo Berger's film is a tragic dance following a muleta with gray nuances, sure to make true lovers of great cinema rush to theaters. A brilliant movie that turns a Brothers Grimm fairy tale into the stuff dreams are made of!
