Horror flick with Anthony Hopkins about a young priest sent to the Vatican to study exorcism.

Michael, a young seminary student about to complete his studies, is sent to Rome to study within the Vatican itself the rituals of exorcism practiced by the Catholic church. Racked with doubt about his own faith, his concern is heightened by this course, which he considers the wrong response to what is really psychological illness, a subject he is very good at. Once introduced to the temperamental and eccentric but respected priest who heads the course, Michael is introduced to an unknown world as Father Lucas confronts him violently several times, largely challenging his ideas on the subject.

Although the plot may seem potentially scary, the movie itself is not – at least without being boring. Based on a true story according to its marketers, The Rite is ultimately too conventional, and though labeled as horror, other movies in the genre have been much more intense.
