Where the Wild Things Are
9-year-old Max does his best to get attention, especially now that his mother is spending more time with her new boyfriend. To get away from the adult world, Max builds igloos out of snow and makes caves in his room. After throwing a tantrum one night and being sent to bed without his supper for misbehaving, Max runs away in his wolf's costume to the beach, sailing to a land where enormous melancholy monsters live. Adaptation of Maurice Sendak's classic children's book. Directed by Spike Jonze, maker of "Adaptation" and "Being John Malkovich", who turned a 330-word book with 16 pictures into a $80 million production. Jonze nevertheless manages a wonderful movie about childhood that is both poetic and cruel.
