Whatever Works
Eccentric, neurotic, misanthropic, cantankerous and pessimistic, an eminent retired physics professor from Columbia University jumps out his window, even though he lives in a luxurious Manhattan apartment and has a beautiful rich wife. But he's failed at everything in life: his marriage, not winning the Nobel Prize, and now even his suicide! So he decides to leave it all behind for a bohemian existence. But one day he finds a naive country girl who's new to New York on his doorstep. The tortured intellectual and the lively young woman get on like a house on fire and decide to get married. And then her parents arrive in town from Mississippi to complicate things. After a long sabbatical in Europe - 3 films made in London and 1 in Barcelona - Woody Allen is back in New York with a comedy full of snappy lines and quick comebacks. Starring Larry David, co-creator of "Seinfeld" and star of "Curb Your Enthusiasm".
