Los Angeles, 1928. When she has to take over a colleague's shift, a single mother is forced to leave her 9-year-old son home alone. When she returns, he has disappeared. A few months later, the Los Angeles police calls to say they have found him. But the LAPD's motive is to close the case in the hope of cleaning up its image after recent scandals: the boy is not her son. The woman, helped by a local reverend who regularly denounces the police on the radio, decides to take on the LAPD to get her son back.
