Algeria, 1954. As the rebellion rages in the valley, Daru, an Algerian teacher with European roots, is determined not to yield to fear and leave his students. When a man is brought to him accused of murdering his cousin, whom he is supposed to escort to an isolated village, Daru refuses. But events push him to accept and go on a journey across the icy desert, peopled with bloodthirsty rebels and soldiers on a mission.

A free adaptation of The Guest by Albert Camus, starring Viggo Mortensen and Reda Kateb, set in the Algerian desert with a soundtrack by Warren Ellis and Nick Cave: on paper, Far From Men is like something from another plant. The second movie by David Oelhoffen, the director of Nos retrouvailles and co-writer of L’Affaire SK1, this search for oneself orchestrates an encounter between two solitary souls, united by a chaos that revives them. The formula is almost ordinary, but benefits from the magnetic presence of Mortensen and the fabulous setting, which makes this fable remarkably powerful.
