Tom Cruise patrols the desolated landscapes of a post-apocalyptic world.

Sixty years from now, Earth's population has deserted the planet after an apocalyptic alien attack. Humans have won the war against the assailant but were condemned to leave their home planet, now a mere wasteland of stunning desolation. Living in isolation in the ruins of their world, Jack (Tom Cruise) and Victoria (Andrea Risenborough), in charge of drone maintenance, watch while the planet's last resources are drained to sustain the human colonies in outer space. But are they really alone?

Tron director Joseph Kosinski makes a name for himself with this second production, and adaptation of his own comic book work. Powerful science fiction, Oblivion is a beautiful creation, with its own identity, feel and look, as well as an homage to great titles of the genre. The slow pacing - a refreshing change of rhythm in today's sometimes-predictable sci-fi production - creates a tense and mysterious atmosphere, building up the momentum of an already well-written plot. Subtle acting, skilful directing and breath-taking visuals all tie the film together with eerie harmony and create a story in a unique world. In short: great sci-fi.
