Camille and Sullivan, two adolescents aged 15 and 19, experience an intense and passionate first love. But Sullivan plans to travel no matter what, so he and Camille have one last idyllic summer before he leaves for South America in September. Their relationship continues by letter, with a few telephone calls in between, until the day Sullivan stops writing. In spring, Camille is severely depressed and attempts suicide. She doesn't see Sullivan again for several years, when she is a professional architect in a blooming relationship with her former professor, with whom she wants a child.
