Later married to a scholar of Tibetan culture, Michael Aris (David Thewlis), she lives in Oxford with their two children when her mother becomes ill. Arriving in Rangoon during the middle of a tumultuous time, Aung San Suu Kyi realizes the military government is waging a bloody battle against students demanding freedom.
