Les adoptés
The turmoils of a family made up mainly of women who need to relearn how to open up to others.
Lisa's (Mélanie Laurent) family is made up of her son, whom she's raising alone, her imposing mother (Clémentine Célarié) and her sister Marine. It's a matriarchy, and everyone claims to be satisfied with it. But when Alex (Denis Ménochet) falls in love with Marine (Marie Denarnaud), he'll need to be adopted into the system. These women learned to live amongst themselves once the men left, and now they each need to relearn how to open up to others. Life always has a few complications in store, and an accident will force them to adapt...
In directing her circumspect debut film Mélanie Laurent adds another slash to her career as an actor-singer, while making the most of being able to show herself in a good light without overdoing it. The film is carefully produced, polished and doesn't leave much to chance. A bit too smooth perhaps, but it works well despite a few monologues that fall flat.
