A young man finds out he has cancer and is forced to deal with the various reactions from those around him.

Adam (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is just 27. He finds out he has a rare form of cancer with - as he gleans from the internet - has a 50% chance of remission. So he's forced to tell his loved ones about his fate: his girlfriend, his mother and his best friend (Seth Rogen). The reactions differ, from those who threaten to break down to those who will support him until the end. This gives Adam the opportunity for introspection and to clean house in his relationships during his treatment. He is helped along by Katherine (Ana Kendrick), whose doctoral thesis rests on the psychological side effects of cancer. Despite her lack of experience, she may be just what will save Adam...

50% comedy, 50% drama: a cocktail that would go down well, if cancer were funny and the buddy thing weren't getting tired. The girlfriend who bails, the mother who won't let go... and the buddy who talks him into using the cancer angle to pick up girls in bars. There has to be a more subtle way of talking about brotherly love between guys without turning women into flighty sluts with the IQ of an oyster. Disguised as a serious buddy movie, 50/50 puts down women in a shameful manner.
