After witnessing his wife decapitated by a powerful and sadistic drug dealer, a former Mexican federale who's good with a machete (which is where he gets his nickname, *Machete*) reluctantly accepts a contract to hit a reactionary Texas senator whose main aim is to stop illegal immigration and deport those without legal papers.
