The titular character (Mike Myers) is a green ogre whose serene swamp one day turns into a de facto refugee camp. It seems that Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow), diminutive ruler of the neighbouring land of Duloc, has initiated a purge of fairy tale characters. This disturbs Shrek to the extent that it disturbs his peace, so he makes a deal with Farquaad: he’ll rescue the lovely Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) to be Farquaad’s bride, in exchange for getting his privacy back. But be prepared for the unexpected because Grimms’ fairy tales are turned inside out in Duloc.
