In 2029, a research craft from each investigates space phenomena. In order to shield astronauts from danger, apes are trained as pilots. Leo (Mark Wahlberg) is one of the instructors and a pilot himself. When his ape is sent into an electromagnetic cloud and disappears, he follows and also gets lost in a space-time continuum. His spaceship crashes on a planet, where he finds himself surrounded by intelligent apes who hunt and capture humans. He manages to gain the trust of the senator's daughter Ari (Helena Bonham Carter), who makes it possible for him and other prisoners to escape...
