Karel Reisz, born in the Czech Republic in 1926 was best known for films such as «The French Lieutenant's Woman» starring Meryl Streep or «Everybody Wins» featuring Nick Nolte. Reisz died on Monday in London at the age of 76 – the cause of death is unknown.

In 1960 Karel Reisz launched his film making career with «Saturday Night And Sunday Morning», a drama about the plight of the english working class. As one of the leaders of the english Free Cinema movement, he then directs «Morgan: A Suitable Case For Treatment» and «Isadora», 2 films through which Vanessa Redgrave emerged as a star. In 1974, Reisz shot his first US-Film, «The Gambler» with James Caan, in 1982, the now legendary «The French Lieutenant's Woman» with Meryl Streep and Jeremy Irons and in 1986 «Sweet Dreams» with Jessica Lange. His last big film is «Everybody Wins» starring Nick Nolte und Debra Winger in 1990. Karel Reisz leaves his wife, actress Betsy Blair, and their three sons.
