Tom Hanks has Watergate project in the works
Tom Hanks' production company has just bought the rights to the story of Mark Felt, better known as Deep Throat from the Watergate affair. Felt broke his 30-year silence by unmasking himself in Vanity Fair.
Mark Felt, former FBI agent, broke his 30-year silence by unmasking himself in Vanity Fair as Deep Throat, the man who snitched on Richard Nixon to Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward of the Washington Post. Nixon was forced to resign in 1974 as a result of the subsequent Watergate affair. Now Playtone, Tom Hanks' production company, has bought the rights to Felt's story, which includes a movie project, a book project, as well as the Vanity Fair article itself, written by lawyer John O'Connor, who will also write the book. Watergate has already been the subject of a movie, 1976's «All the President's Men», with Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford as the two journalists.
