Christmas present for «Sideways»

On January 16, the tragicomic drama «Sideways» may take home as many as 7 Golden Globes.

«About Schmidt» director Alexander Payne's «Sideways» is one of the big favorites of the Golden Globe Awards. The movie deals with a writer (Paul Giamatti), who celebrates his college buddy's (Thomas Haden Church) last week as a free man by taking him to Santa Barbara's wine country. Paul Giamatti («American Splendor») is pleased with the nomination, because of the challenge the movie poses to its audience: «It demands a lot on the part of the person watching it. It could just slip by and you could think this is just about 2 guys getting drunk and getting laid. But it's got a lot more to it than that, it is a very dense movie. I'm glad people like it,» says the 37-year-old actor. «Sideways» premieres on February 10 in Swiss-German theaters. The Golden Globes will be distributed on January 16. Other front runners are Martin Scorsese's «The Aviator» (6 nominations), «Closer» by Mike Nichols (5 nominations) and Marc Forster's «Finding Neverland» (5 nominations).
