Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Movie Rating: Geoffrey Crété

After a mission goes wrong and ends with them being chased by baddies from an entire planet, Star-Lord and his team are saved from destruction by a mysterious man named Ego, who says he is Peter's long-lost father. When Ego takes them to the idyllic planet he created with his extraordinary powers, Quill learns the truth about his nature. But Ego is not the man he claims to be, and the Guardians of the Galaxy must again unite against an unexpected threat...

When compared to Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and the other Avengers, The Guardians of the Galaxy look like dirty little kids. Director James Gunn breathed lots of energy, self-deprecation and style into their first adventure, for an amazing, colorful and awesome universe supported by an enthusiastic soundtrack and excellent actors. Vol.2 continues in the same way: there’s a lot of humor in this pop space odyssey, which gives more time than usual to its characters, who are perfectly played by Chris Pratt and his team. The movie’s one drawback is its chatty nature, as it insists on offering information about every relationship and every conflict surrounding the family. It’s not enough to taint the effort, but it is regrettable that the movie does not completely live up to its ambitions.
