Sicario USA 2015 – 121min.
Arizona. An FBI agent who specializes in kidnapping, Kate Macer is enlisted by a government special ops troop to participate in a drug raid along the Mexican border. New to the field, she finds out that there are rules to what is a dangerous game that is far from her black & white view of the world …
Sicario once again proves the talent of Denis Villeneuve. Finding fame with Incendies, Prisoners and Enemy, the Canadian filmmaker (who has just completed the science-fiction movie Story of Your Life with Amy Adams and is in pre-production for Blade Runner 2) moves into blockbuster territory with this high-tension thriller, which was presented in the official competition at the last Cannes Film Festival. Within a straightforward cartel setting, Villeneuve’s mise en scène is impressive, with a magnificent sense of framing and a thundering soundtrack that keeps the tension going until it culminates in a handful of sensational scenes (an amazing border crossing). With an Oscar in sight for Benicio Del Toro, Emily Blunt carries this movie on her solid shoulders with a strong role much different from what she has done so far.
