To rehabilitate the memory of his brother, who was buried in an unconsecrated grave because his death was believed to be suicide, Federico turns to the convent of Bobbio. Thus he finds out the only way he will be successful is to force Sister Benedetta, accused of being a witch, to confess that she drove his brother to commit suicide. In the same town centuries later, a government inspector knocks on the door of a convent that was turned into a prison and is now abandoned. There he meets its mysterious inhabitant…

Beware those who go to a screening of Marco Bellocchio’s new movie without being prepared. Blood of My Blood starts off well, with a witchcraft story that is pleasantly dark, strange and captivating – thanks also to an a capella version of a Metallica song. But the movie loses its head in the second part, which is both incomprehensible and absurd, sinking to hackneyed “special effects” to portray a vampire. Fans of Bellocchio’s A Leap in the Dark, Good Morning, Night and Vincere may consider Blood of My Blood a wonderful enigma that incorporates the predilections of the average Italian. Others may find it weak and ridiculous.
