On vacation in Morocco to try to fix their relationship, Perry and Gail Perkins, an English couple, accidentally meet Dima, a wealthy Russian businessman. Perry becomes friends with the millionaire, who invites them out on a luxurious evening and tells them the real reason for his presence: Dima and his family are being threatened by the Russian mafia, for which he launders money. To get out, Dima needs to get in touch with the British Secret Service. He gives Perry a thumb drive containing valuable information, which he is to give to the authorities on their return to London. But Perry and Gail find themselves unwittingly involved in a matter that overwhelms them...

The writer John Le Carré has long been a good source of inspiration for big budget productions in search of suspenseful projects: The Tailor of Panama starring Pierce Brosnan in 2001, The Constant Gardener starring Ralph Fiennes in 2005, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy starring Gary Oldman in 2011, and A Most Wanted Man starring Philip Seymour Hoffman in 2013. In 2016, it’s Our Kind of Traitor, starring Ewan McGregor and Naomi Harris in a mafia-spy story with Stellan Skarsgard. The result is as average as the cast is exciting: perfectly directed by Susanna White, this preposterous story of ordinary citizens plunged into international intrigue is sorely lacking in daring and adrenaline. Stretched out to almost two hours, it racks up explanatory dialogues presented by under-written characters, without taking the time to craft the suspense and tension necessary for the story. After a moment of hope for a noire climax, even the ending finally turns out to be typically Hollywood.
