As they get ready to go on tour through the US, Jipé, the lead singer of the Belgian rock group Grand Ours dies. As if that weren’t enough, the band members discover that he had been keeping quite a secret from them: his five-year relationship with a soldier named Dany. Determined to go on tour anyway, Yvan pushes the band to fly to America, not knowing that Dany has decided to follow them with his lover’s ashes, so that Jipé can be with his best friends even in death …

Belgian road movie starring Bouli Lanners as the head of an old rock band. Je suis mort mais j’ai des amis will annoy those allergic to platitudes on marginality, friendship and freedom. Guillaume and Stéphane Malandrin’s movie follows the usual pattern, with madcap scenes and bizarre characters, but the journey soon becomes more important than the destination. The result is entertaining, thanks to the energy of its irresistible mise en scène, a surprising arc and a good cast, especially the excellent Wim Willaert as the lethargic bundles of nerves.
