Newly arrived in Madison, New York with his mother, Zach Cooper quickly falls in love with his classmate Hannah, who lives next door with her odd father. One night, after hearing screams from her mysterious house, Zach is convinced that Hannah's father is hiding something. He decides to investigate with his new friend Field, and discovers an incredible collection of Goosebumps books. Then he accidentally unlocks some of them, releasing outlandish creatures that wreak havoc on the neighborhood...

For fans of teenage thrills and terrors. First adapted as a TV series in the 90s, the movie version incorporates its basic principle: Stine creatures come to life and sow a terror wherever they go. The movie stars Jack Black and is directed by Rob Letterman (Gulliver's Travels), so it will be no surprise to learn that it is simplistic and unmemorable, an uninventive little adventure with a few more or less bad special effects to animate a dwarf, a poodle, some insects and the abominable snowman. Unless you have a very strong inner child, or are a child that is insensitive to the banality of American movies, Goosebumps will easily be forgotten. Or be replaced by a nostalgic session Jumanji session.
