Caracas, Venezuela. Armando, a solitary man of fifty, regularly picks up young men in the street. He attracts them with money and asks them to undress so he can look at them without touching them. One day, he meets Elder, a petty criminal, who aggressively follows him home and strikes Armando before robbing him. Fascinated by the young man, Armando offers to let him come back. An ambiguous relationship gradually develops between the two men.

The original title of Los Amantes de Caracas is Desde Allá, "From over there", which mirrors the distance between the hero and the world, brilliantly staged, which grabs the audience from the start. This film by Venezuelan director Lorenzo Vigas Castes centers on a withdrawn man who is anesthetized by his condition. It will take a violent blow to awaken him and allow for this strange love story to begin. Violent and dry but moving, Los Amantes de Caracas is reminiscent of André Téchiné’s Being 17, also centered on a homosexual love story in which violence becomes the only means of communication. Excellent performances by Alfredo Castro and Luis Silva help make this a remarkable film.
