In the wake of her mother’s death and a bad divorce, a woman falls apart for several years – taking heroin and sleeping indiscriminately with men. In attempt to get her life back together, she decides to walk the entire 1700-km Pacific Crest Trail by herself.

Adapted from the autobiographical novel by Cheryl Strayed, this movie offers a look at the diversity of human beings and urges audiences to question themselves. Reese Witherspoon is more than convincing in this drama, reaffirming her incredible talent with a role that is light years from Legally Blonde. Those familiar with Mud and Walk the Line will not be surprised by her performance in Wild, as she brings her struggle with herself right to the audience. Canadian director Jean-Marc Vallée (Dallas Buyers Club) looks at our obsession with material things in life, but occasionally gets lost in too much narrative as the poetry gets run over by plot points.
