The tranquility of the valley of the Moomins is upset by the shipwreck of a pirate ship on their shores. This extraordinary event has them dreaming of adventure, and so they decide to travel to the sunny Riviera for the chic life they have heard is there. But the unity the Moomins usually enjoy starts to fray at the edges as they each have a different experience among the aristocrats and the stars…

The charming Finnish hippos created by Tove Jansson in 1945 continue to entertain new generations of children. The fourth animated film about the legendary creatures, Moomins on the Riviera, offers up a new, wonderfully old-fashioned adventure, full of fun characters who come to life within a beautiful 2D world. This naïve setting, far from the showy styles we are used to from today’s successful animated movies, perfectly serves the simple and noble plot of this delightfully regressive adventure. Targeted at children, it works wonders with adults too, who will appreciate its retro style.
