2001. in search of truth and justice, journalist Denis Robert denounces the shady dealings of the Clearstream bank, which helps the powerful avoid taxes and launder money. The publication of his books Révélation$ and La Boîte noire provoke a spectacular debate that goes all the way to the top of the French government, becoming the Clearstream Affair.

In the wake of Comme les autres, about a gay couple wanting to adopt and Présumé coupable, about the Outreau Affair, director Vincent Garenq again looks at a crack in modern society: the Clearstream Affair, a tidal wave that swept all the way to the top of France’s government. In theory, this story about a determined journalist, a Don Quixote of modern times who goes after banks and murky corporations, has all the necessary ingredients for a complex and suspenseful thriller. But L’Enquête is bogged down by a bland script, superficial characters and flat, emotionless direction. Gilles Lellouche, brings along the same brand of shallow performance he perfected in La French, which doesn’t really help.
