Two experts for paranormal activity are called in to help a family deal with a dark spirit in their new home.

It's supposed to be a new beginning for the Perron family. Together with their five daughters, Roger and Carolyn move to Harrisville, Rhode Island, into an old country house in need of renovation. Shortly after their arrival, they begin to experience all kinds of strange events that especially frighten the children. In hopes of putting an end to their fears, the couple turns to famous ghostbusters Ed and Lorraine Warren. After initially turning the job down, they take it on after all and realize there is an extremely dangerous power at work in the house.

Director James Wan's movie deals with the apparently true story of the Perron family, who was terrorized by a demon. Based on documentation from the real Ed and Lorraine Warren, the Australian director's effort is an effective horror flick that uses subtlety to build up suspense, skillfully tying in classic elements of the genre.
