Star Trek Into Darkness
Sequel to the rebooted science-fiction franchise – again directed by J.J. Abrams and for the first time in 3D.
An emergency meeting is called after a bombing at a Star Fleet installation, which is then attacked by the renegade John Harrison (Benedict Cumberbatch). Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) barely gets away and is assigned by Admiral Marcus (Peter Weller) to go after Harrison, who has escaped to the Klingon home world Qo'nos thanks to transwarp technology. But bringing him to justice may lead to a conflict with the Klingons and turn into an intergalactic war.
In 2009, J.J. Abrams rebooted the franchise, giving it a more modern look and feel. Abrams is still on course with a movie that thrives on high-energy storytelling and emotional content, going where no Star Trek movie has gone before. At the same time, he pays homage to what made Star Trek great by offering not just nonstop surprises, but also a conglomerate of the best ideas from the classic movies – while managing to a void a patchwork result. Superb sci-fi action with interesting plot twists, an intelligent story and an outstanding bad guy, played by Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch.
