The unspectacular life of an old woman and her son is disrupted by the arrival of a stranger.

80-year-old Louise (Annemarie Düringer), a former actress, and her son André (Stefan Kurt), a taxi driver, lead a boring and well-regulated life: tea, pool, tea and cards with other old ladies, bedtime ritual for her, getting up ritual for him, weekends at the airport with other fans of model planes. André, obsessed with his mother's well-being, can't break away from her even as he falls for Steffi (Nina Proll), the pretty saleswomen at the local sausage van. Charming scam artist Bill (Stanley Townsend) arrives from the States and wins over Louise as he starts to call her “mom”...

Swiss director Bettina Oberli (domestic blockbuster Die Herbstzeitlosen) looks at the inner lives of humble and simple people, especially the aged. The needy relationship between mother and son comes under close scrutiny, as do the lies one tells oneself or those close to manipulate them more easily. How to free oneself from duty and a guilty conscience vis-à-vis one's parents is a topical question that is dealt with here with much humor, intelligence and skill. An excellent film!
