A young black man of 22 decides to clean up his act for his daughter, his mother and his Latina girlfriend.

Oscar has never taken the straight and narrow path: the pain he caused his mother, his Latina girlfriend and their daughter after a spell in prison pushes this young black man of 22 to stop dealing and live an honest life. He just needs to work out one "small" problem: how to find a job after being fired for repeatedly being late. Deciding to stick to his New Year’s resolutions, Oscar first spends New Year’s Eve in San Francisco watching the fireworks together with his friends. But after he inadvertently gets involved in a fight on the train back to Oakland, Oscar and his friends are arrested by some very nervous cops...

Unsettling film-homage to Oscar Grant, who disappeared on the morning of January, 2009, after an incident of police brutality videoed by various bystanders. The footage, uploaded online, was viewed by millions, resulting in waves of violence. Produced by Forrest Whitaker and a winner at Cannes, Deauville and Sundance, this independent film reminds us, painfully, that a deadly accident can occur quickly when spirits are heated, when cops are eager for confrontation and especially when their targets are black. A movie taken from the headlines that shows how far the US is from settling its relationship towards violence.
