On short notice, Yann Kermadec (François Cluzet) replaces his brother-in-law (Guillaume Canet) for the race around the world in a single-sailor boat. During his first Vendée Globe, the big surprise is that there are not one, but two people on board... When he stops along the coast of the Canary Islands, an illegal immigrant stows away on his boat in hopes of reaching the continent, where he dreams of a better life and a career in sports. But his presence means disqualification. Deciding to cast off as quickly as possible and deviating from his itinerary, Yann hides his stowaway from his teammates, who stay in contact with him every day. At the same time, he juggles with the competitive element even as he helps the other participants along the way. As they sail along together across the ocean, Yann realizes there are more important things than winning a competition.
