Documentary following photographer James Belog as he shoots glaciers melting.

In 2007, renowned photographer James Balog started his "Extreme Ice Survey" project to capture irrefutable evidence that glaciers are melting due to global warming – a very political phenomenon in the US, which is strongly contested by the republicans. Despite his bum knee and climatic conditions that aren’t always agreeable, Balog and a team of engineers go to Iceland, Greenland and Alaska, setting up cameras to shoot, over a period of months, gigantic calving glaciers, some of which are as large as Manhattan...

Once upon a time, melting ice caps were like the yeti: everyone had heard of them, but no one had actually seen one. But since James Balog returned from Greenland with an armload of proof that glaciers are disappearing, many people are realizing the extent of the phenomenon. A winner at Sundance, this documentary retraces the stubborn photographer’s expedition, offering images that are a beautiful as they are tragic, as impressive as they are alarming. The closing message: something must be done, there and right now, before it’s too late.
