Short description
Aung San Suu Kyi (Michelle Yeoh) is still a little girl when her father, General Aung San, leader of the Burmese army, is assassinated. Later married to a scholar of Tibetan culture, Michael Aris (David Thewlis), she lives in Oxford with their two children when her mother becomes ill. Arriving in Rangoon during the middle of a tumultuous time, Aung San Suu Kyi realizes the military government is waging a bloody battle against students demanding freedom. Her return to Burma spreads hope throughout the people, who see her as the incarnation of her father and the only person capable of finishing what he started.
