A Somewhat Gentle Man Norway 2010 – 103min.

Movie Rating

En ganske snill mann

An aging former killer is released from prison after 12 years. Starring Stellan Skarsgard.

Ulrik is a bland, laconic hulk of a man with a gray pony tail designed to keep attention away from his bald spot. He's also a murderer just released from prison who slides right back into the next bit of misery. But mainly he's a really nice man. With unwavering calm and gentle goodness, the former criminal endures his fate between women and jobs he doesn't want, and the grown son who doesn't want him.

A laconic Scandinavian black comedy in the style of the Coen Brothers, starring the superb Stellan Skarsgard. Even if not as precise or deep as a feature by the legendary Aki Kaurismäki, this movie is still worth a visit.
