Documentary about Danish soldiers in Afghanistan.

A group of enthusiastic young Danish soldiers say goodbye to their tear-stained loved ones at the airport: this is the start of a troubling documentary that lets the audience share in the daily lives of a military troop posted to the Armadillo army base in Afghanistan for six months. Six long months, during which the desire to fight the Taliban clashes with both the ruthless violence of combat and the extreme boredom of the barracks between the action. Their addiction to adrenaline subsequently transfers itself to violent video games and porn, as they become increasingly aggressive and cynical, no longer seeing the enemy as human beings.

Both realistic and overly stylish, this movie is disturbing in its absence of detachment from what is shown, but it leaves the audience free, if not abandoning it entirely, to deal on its own with the ethical and moral questions it raises.
