When You're Strange

Documentary about the American rock band The Doors.

At the end of the 60's, as a wind of youth counter-culture blew through the America, four young men mixed rock n' roll with jazz influences, creating a unique style that shot them to the top of the charts. The Doors, with the brooding Jim Morrison as their lead singer, became legends as their success and scandals spread throughout the world. This is their story, brilliant and unbridled, stuffed with rare and fervent archival images.

The atypical director Tom DiCillo (Living in Oblivion, Delirious) uses this America in the midst of change as a backdrop for the mystical and musical exploration led by Morrison, the passionate poet fueled as much by William Blake as by psychedelic drugs. All narrated by Johnny Depp, for a film that could well become cult.
