Lucas gets even more cash
George Lucas has found a way to make even more money off «Star Wars: Episode II». The pay TV giant HBO has purchased the exclusive rights for broadcasting the movie in the US. You could easily make at least one movie with that kind of money.
Pay TV giant HBO has paid 15 million dollars for the rights to be the first to broadcast «Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones» in the US. HBO has the exclusive rights for 18 months, after which the other channels get their chance, but not for long. After 4 years the exclusive rights go back to HBO. For its 15 million HBO also gets the right to show the earlier Star Wars movies, as well as a chance at the exclusive advance bidding on the third and last in the series, which is just now being filmed. Amazingly, this is not the best deal George Lucas has ever made with a TV station: Fox shelled out $80 million for «Star Wars: Episode I».
